Misawa International Association

Combining 9 international groups in Misawa, the Misawa International Association (MIA) was established on March, 5th, 2004, for the purpose of further promoting the internationalization in and around Misawa City, and of contributing to the city's motto of "Making a cultural town with relaxation and satisfaction." The office of MIA is at the
Misawa International Center, and there it offers the information on international exchanges to its members and the local citizens. The lounge of the Center can be used for a place for people to hold language study circles and other activities.

Misawa International Club

This club has been the driving force in promoting international events in Misawa, following the present trend of society: “The Internationalization of Local Cities” since its establishment. They plan and carry out various programs of cultural and personal exchanges throughout the year. The club respects the cooperation of the American community in Misawa because it is the key to success for further development and expansion of their activities. It was established in 1987 and is the main sponsor of Japan Day and American Day.

Japanese/American Friendship Club

This club was organized in 1980 for the purpose of Americans and Japanese learning each other’s languages, cultures and ways of life through exchange activity. Presently the club has about 50 American and Japanese members. Club members, their families and friends go on ski trips, the Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival, hiking and fireworks at Lake Towada, helps Japan Day and American Day events, participate in the Misawa Festival, and conduct volunteer services such as visiting old folks’ homes, facilities for handicapped children, and assist with the Red Feather Charity program. The club holds “Japanese and English Speaking Circle” every Friday.

The Aomori International Exchange Association

The Foundation is a public interest organization which aims to promote international relations activities between the local community and foreigners residing in Aomori Prefecture. Their office is located on the 5th floor of the Suisan Building (next to the triangle building ASPAM) in Aomori City.
