Time The final Jomon period
Briefing The Kamegaoka site is located on the hill of about 4-16 meters above sea level at the foot of Mt. Byobu north of the Tsugaru Plain. To the east the Shichirinagahama Beach stretches facing the Sea of Japan, and Mt. Iwaki is seen far to the south.
The site is known since the era of Edo, and the Kamegaoka culture was named after the remains in the final Jomon period.
The clay figure with a sun shading device, which brings us a feeling of the mysterious ancient world with its alien-like big eyes and its body decorated with beautiful patterns, was excavated at this site.
The site is also famous for many pieces of beautiful pottery such as pot or plates made with fine patters and colored with lacquer.
